Inspirational Quotes Daily not so inspirational after all

My last blog post detailed how my app, Inspirational Quotes Daily, shot up in keyword ranking according to the ranking site Sensor Tower. It's boost was short-lived as it fell down to slightly above its pre-bump after several days.

The post also described my hypothesis to the boost - mostly attributed to a major bump in reviews (2 to 73). Around early to mid October about half of those reviews were removed and only 38 reviews still stand. I believe this caused the downward spike. Tomorrow I will try to get some more reviews and see if that can bump the app up again. Also, I'm releasing a new version, so both of those will contribute to an improved ranking.

The advertisement revenue from Inspirational Quotes Daily is poverty since downloads are lacking Fortunately, ad impressions rise linearly with current installs by device. The later is shown below over a 3 month period.

If I don't see noticeable improvement, then I am going to discontinue development of this particular app and clone another three daily quote apps onto the store and hope one will get lucky. 

Inspirational Quotes Daily has jumped to spot 92 for 'inspirational quotes' on Google Play

Inspirational Quotes Daily has been slowly increasing its presence in the Google Play store. The initial promotion of the app did significantly improve its position and seemed to be a waste of $70. Within the past two days, it has spiked from rank 222 to 92, as seen above in the graph from Sensortower.com, for unknown reasons. I want to suggest that this is because of the reviews and ratings it received during the initial promotion phase were finally calculated into its ranking, three weeks later. I'm going to release a new version with bug fixes next weekend (Sunday hopefully) and I'll look for a similar spike three weeks later.

Shown in the two above graphs are the current installs by device and daily installs by device for Inspirational Quotes Daily. They do not show a massive spike in downloads. If indeed the app store crawler was delayed when it ranked the app, then it would factor in the current installs / total installs, 19/36, and show a high retention rate. I attribute that to the nature of the app because it engages users daily.
The most interesting part of this analysis is my Admob network requests (not shown) because they have climbed five to ten times the normal amount of impressions in the past couple of days. It is normal for impressions to double from Thursday through Sunday. My small amount of downloads is not going to give the greatest amount of confidence as to why this is happening, but it is unlikely to be the doing of one or two users. In the next app update I'll install Google Analytics so I can give deeper reviews of what is going on.
